CCA Matters
CCA POLICY
- CCAs are available to all students in the areas of Aesthetics (Performing Arts), Outdoors (Sports and Uniformed Groups) and Clubs and Societies. ALL students must have at least one CCA from any of these groups. Student participation in CCA is COMPULSORY.
- CCA practices/training sessions and meetings are held weekly on Tuesday and Friday. Whenever the need arises, especially closer to competition periods, practices may be conducted on other days.
- The school will allocate a CCA based on one of the 5 CCA choices stated by a Secondary 1 student in the CCA Selection Form. CCA allocation will be is based on a balance between student choice, vacancies available and the ability or potential demonstrated during the trials and auditions by the student.
- Every student must fulfil at least 75% attendance with valid reasons given for non-attendance before CCA attainment levels are given. Disciplinary action will be taken against students who do not turn up for CCA despite repeated warnings from Teacher-in-charge. Absence from CCA is considered truancy and the student’s conduct grade will be affected.
- Continuous involvement in and commitment to the same CCA is encouraged and will be recognized. This is reflected through a higher level of attainment assigned to students who stay with the same CCA over the years. Continuous and regular participation in a CCA throughout the secondary school years is fundamental to contributing to the quality of school life and overall student development with the students deepening their knowledge and skills in the CCA that they are participating in.
- Students allocated to a CCA from one of their 5 choices cannot change or terminate their participation in their CCA anytime in a year unless they are able to produce a valid medical certificate stating that they are unable to continue in the activities. Permission must be obtained from the HOD/ CCA and respective CCA Teacher-in-charge. A CCA Transfer Form is to be obtained from Teacher-in-charge and must be filled up by the student with parent’s endorsement. Again, a successful CCA transfer is dependent on factors like vacancies available in the CCA and the student meeting the required audition and trials criterion.
- CCAs will be suspended at least 2 weeks before the start of the mid-year and end-of-year examinations for all levels. This includes the Secondary 1 and 3 students who will not be having any mid-year examinations under the revised assessment policy changes introduced by MOE in 2018.
- A student may in addition to his/her school based CCA apply to take part in external competitions and events which may not be related to his/her school based CCA. Such participation has to meet the required endorsement of the school. The school can decide whether or not to endorse based on requirements such as available manpower to exercise duty of care for the student in the external competition or event or if there are long term clashes with his/her school based CCA. It is the responsibility of the student to inform the school officially of his/her intention in January so that the school has time to contact the relevant organisers for more information so that an informed decision can be made. It is also the responsibility of the student to furnish all details as required by the school and organiser, failing which the school may not endorse the external participation.
CCA GRADING
Students will be given levels of attainment before they graduate in the domains of Leadership, Achievement and Attainment, Participation and Service. The attainment levels achieved by the student will then correspond to one out of three levels of recognition - Excellent, Good and Fair. Bonus points of between 0 points to 2 points are awarded based on these three levels of recognition for use by the student for application to post-secondary institutions.
